On Saturday 20th Feb 2010 we took two juniors to the BJJA GB annual competition in Walsall.
They both entered the Random attacks and the continuous fighting competitions.
Spencer - Bronze Medal Randon Attacks - Luca - Gold Medal Continual Fighting
Spencer went out in the early rounds of the continuous fighting much to his disappointment. That said he showed the crowds and the officials on the day that he has lots of potential for the future, and maybe it just wasn't his day. However he also entered the Random attacks and eventually lost in the semi finals to a lad who equipped himself really well in that bout. Spencer needed to go early and I know he felt a little disappointed that he didn't do better. But he can feel proud of himself for achieving what he did in his first ever Jujitsu competition, that was a fantastic result.
Luca, like Spencer suffered in one of his competitions where he went out early in the Random Attacks. Again this was Luca's first experience of a Jujitsu competition and this was intended to be a revealing day where he could gain experience and understand some of the pressures associated with competition. After not achieving as well as he wanted in the Randoms I think Luca had a little talk to himself and went full head on with the Continuous fighting competition. This is a competition which reflects on your ability at sparring, randori and ground-work. So what a fabulous result when Luca at just 14 years old went on to win the final and along the way he disposed of two Black Belts.
This was a fantastic day with plenty of really good competitions and some fantastic sportsmanship being displayed. Everyone who entered should be proud of their achievements regardless of whether they won a final or not. The organisers really made it a splendid day and the whole event was run smoothly and on time.
A great day - with some great results
Well done Luca and Spencer you can both be very proud of yourselves, we at the club are proud of you.
